Life Lessons From “Schitt’s Creek” That Everyone Can Apply

Must Read

We followed the humorous and endearing Rose family’s journey for six seasons as they lost their whole fortune and ended up penniless in Schitt’s Creek. The Rose family isn’t terribly relatable unless you insist on being couture every minute of every day, own a collection of expensive wigs, or charter yachts to far-off destinations. However, in terms of maturing, dreaming, and relationships, the show functions as a humorous self-help book.

Schitt’s Creek is the ideal medium to be both amusing and educative in equal measure because of its humorous and vulnerable examination of vulnerability. Here are nine important lessons I took away from the adored show, along with the character that imparted them to me.

I believe a picture of Alexis Rose’s face will be in the dictionary entry for “second chances.” Not only does Alexis never stop entertaining us with stories of her near-misses, but she also completes every task she sets out to perform. She is given another opportunity at happiness, but this time it required her to make difficult decisions, which turned out to be well worth it. It serves as a good reminder that everything doesn’t have to turn out the way it does, even when it seems like it should.

David Rose latches onto the notion of relocating himself and his fiancé to New York with their family as a desperate attempt to convince his old friends in New York that he made it. He doesn’t need to reside in New York to prove he already won, though, as his best friend Stevie points out to him. It served as a pretty good reminder that success need not look like what you had always imagined. You don’t owe it to anyone in particular, and it can vary as your personality does.

We watch as Patrick and David, who speak two completely different love languages, get committed to one another and painfully figure out how to communicate their feelings to one another. It’s quite helpful to figure out your partner’s love language and know how to express it. I was able to observe how it operated directly from Patrick and David, and to be honest, it made me cognizant of the ways in which my husband’s vocabulary is different from mine.
