Schitt’s Creek’s future chances at a revival get an optimistic response from Eugene Levy. Levy starred in the Canadian-American sitcom alongside longtime collaborator Catherine O’Hara, his son, Dan Levy, and Annie Murphy. The show, co-created and produced by Eugene and Dan, received widespread praise and multiple Emmys throughout its run from 2015 to 2020. Since its conclusion, there have been rumblings of a potential return, though nothing has materialized yet.
In an interview with RadioTimes, Eugene Levy discusses the possibilities for a revival of Schitt’s Creek. He characterizes it as a “never say never” situation and mentions that they have never stopped thinking about Schitt’s Creek, a show whose finale saw the actors shedding real tears during their final scenes. Schitt’s Creek signed off in 2020 with the series finale “Happy Ending,” which was universally applauded by critics and viewers. The show ended on a high note with season 6, which won nine Primetime Emmy Awards, including Best Comedy Series. Schitt’s Creek concluded with David and Patrick getting the happy wedding they wanted and moving into a house of their own, Alexis breaking up with Ted and preparing to chase a new career in New York, and Johnny and Moira heading back to California, content with the newfound independence their children had discovered through their hardships.
While the father-son Levy duo technically co-created Schitt’s Creek, the idea for the show was Dan Levy’s. He was also a significant part of what made the show great behind the camera, contributing 26 writing credits across the show’s 80-episode run. Any revival would require Dan Levy to come up with a new idea, which might be challenging in the near future considering his current commitments. He has joined the cast of Sex Education season 4, is hosting HBO’s reality show The Big Brunch, will appear in the new HBO drama series The Idol, and is also working on his directorial debut, Good Grief.
There are many ways that the Schitt’s Creek characters could be reunited, such as celebrating a major expansion for Johnny and Stevie’s motel business. It could also explore the possible reunion of Alexis and Ted, who might finally be in the right place at the right time for each other. Another possibility could be David and Patrick welcoming a baby into the Rose family, a subject they touched on during season 6. Schitt’s Creek was a rare show that remained strong from beginning to end, so if a revival does happen, there’s no doubt they’ll find a way to do the iconic series justice.
