The popular sitcom concluded its run after six seasons in 2020. Catherine O’Hara isn’t ruling out the possibility of revisiting Moira Rose’s eccentric wardrobe for a Schitt’s Creek movie.
Four years after the Canadian series ended, fans are still eager for a return, and O’Hara, 70, shares their hope. During a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s Let’s Talk Off Camera With Kelly Ripa, she expressed her enthusiasm for a potential film adaptation.
“I hope we do a movie,” O’Hara, known for her role in Beetlejuice, shared. “That would be nice.”
For O’Hara, playing the flamboyant matriarch of the Rose family was not only a creative outlet but also a collaborative experience with the Levy family. She appreciated the opportunity to contribute to her character’s development, even if her ideas seemed unconventional to Eugene Levy.
“It’s just lovely to work with people who allow you to collaborate,” she said. “Eugene and Daniel worked with me from the start on my look and were open to my ideas. When I suggested having a wild vocabulary and an inconsistent way of speaking, Eugene was open to experimenting. He didn’t immediately dismiss my ideas. I even suggested wearing a different wig in every scene, and he was willing to explore that too.”
These creative choices became iconic, with O’Hara delivering some of the most memorable lines on television and inspiring many Halloween costumes with her distinctive style and ever-changing wigs.
Series producer Andrew Barnsley revealed that the idea of a movie or series reboot is on the minds of Dan and Eugene Levy. They are considering it regularly, though it’s a matter of timing.
“We know there’s significant demand and interest,” Barnsley told The Messenger in 2023. “Dan and Eugene are thinking about it all the time. It’s important for us to maintain the show’s integrity and heart.”
He also mentioned the concern of potentially diminishing the show’s legacy, similar to what happened with the Entourage movie.
The new season of Let’s Talk Off Camera With Kelly Ripa premieres on March 13, with new episodes available every Wednesday on the SiriusXM app and wherever podcasts are found.
